[Shoe Review] Asics Gel Kayano 22

This is the Gel Kayano 22, Asic’s premium and flaship Stability Shoe. The Kayano Series has been around for a while, around 22 versions has been released, thus the number after the name. It has always been one of the top performing stability shoes since its original release. Below is my short take on this excellent long distance shoe.

For this version (2015), Asics said the Kayano now has a re-engineered Heel-Clutching System and an all new FulidFit upper, both providing a secure fit and improved rear foot stability. Other tech features include: Guidance Line, Guidance Trusstic, Dynamic Duomax and Fluidride.

This shoe is basically for those overpronators, whose foot rolls inwards while running or walking. If you look closely at this shoe’s medial (inner) side (as well as other stability shoes), you’ll notice that the rear area usually has a different color, in this case black. This indicates that this part of the sole is made from a denser material to make your foot stable and prevent it from overpronating.

If you are familiar with this shoe, you’ll definitely notice that my laces are different. They are iBungee Stretch laces which are designed to provide you with an adaptive and easy fitting. You also won't have those moments when you need to tie your laces in the middle of the race.

But enough with the boring tech notes, let’s now discuss on how I find this shoe. Its overall fit and cushioning are great. After using them in a couple of races, I’ve never had any major issues especially foot pain. I also find it light enough, even though stability shoes are generally in the high side of the weighing scale. The only downside of this shoe is the price. You get what you pay for though, thus you don’t feel being ripped off everytime you wear this shoe. I recommend this shoe for any overpronator who is looking for one of the best (if not the best) stability shoe in the market today.
